KING DJANGO - BIOGRAPHY
Drawing on diverse influences such as dancehall, ska, roots reggae, punk
rock, classic rock, soul, swing, and American and Yiddish folk music, King
Django is definitely a hard man to pin down. A seminal force in the East
Coast scene, he has made his name as a singer, ragamuffin MC, songwriter,
arranger, instrumentalist (trombone, ukulele, harmonica, melodica, etc.),
producer, studio engineer and label owner. His recording and touring credits
include Stubborn All-Stars, Skinnerbox, Rancid, The Toasters, The Slackers
and Murphy's Law. He always keeps busy and always has a surprise or two up
his sleeve.
At present, Django spends a lot of time in his Version City recording studio
in New Brunswick, NJ. He also performs regularly with King Django Band, King
Django's Roots and Culture Band, Crazy Baldhead Sound System, and Jah
Culture Sound System among others.
KING DJANGO BAND
The King Django Band is Django's loud four-piece rock-reggae project. With
bassist Noah Shachtman, guitarist Agent Jay, and drummer Walter Teperino,
this band toured in support of the Reason album (Hellcat Records, 2001). In
November of 2002 drummer Ara Babajian was recruited to replace Teperino. The
band is now booking gigs and is set to cut demos this winter, aiming for a
new album in 2003.
KING DJANGO'S ROOTS & CULTURE BAND
The Roots & Culture band is a traditional ska and reggae band, but with a
twist: mad Yiddish flavor in the mix. Klezmatics trumpeter Frank London
really provided the impetus for this band's formation. After hearing
Django's 1998 Yiddish reggae album "Roots & Culture," Frank
suggested that
Django get a band together to play the material live. The Roots & Culture
band played its first show at the Workmen's Circle Purim Party in New York
City in February of 2002, opening for the Klezmatics. With a tight rhythm
section and blazing 4-piece horns, kicking new tunes in the Yiddish ska vein
and lots of chestnuts from Django's Stubborn All-Stars and Skinnerbox days,
Roots & Culture is a party and a half.
VERSION CITY
In late 1996 Django started to collect studio equipment and by early 1997,
Version City was born. Originally located in the East Village of New York
City, the small, dank, rat-infested cellar became a major nexus of New
York's ska and dub scenes. Now located in New Brunswick, NJ, the studio is
much more comfortable and better equipped. Bands regularly travel from
places like Connecticut, Florida, New York City and Upstate New York,
Washington DC, etc. for the warm mellow vibes, not to mention Django's
musical knowledge and production and engineering skills.

Band je leta 1994 ustanovil Phil Fasciana (Malevolent Creation), Rob Barrett
(Cannibal Corpse, Malevolent Creation) in "Crazy" Larry Hawke. Sprva
je cela
zadeva bila misljena biti le projekt in posneli so demo s stirimi komadi, ki
je bil dobro sprejet v underground krogih. Kmalu zatem sta se Phil in Rob
morala osredotociti na svoja banda, a kljub temu sta pisala nov material za
Hate Plow. Dobili so novega vokalista Kylea Symonsa in basista Tima Scotta.
Zopet so sli v studio in izsel je nov izdelek, ki jim je dobil pogodbo za
Pavement music.
Preden bi na novo sli v studio, je Larry dobil osem mesecev zaporne kazni
zaradi kaznivega dejanja, a na sreco jim je uspelo spraviti skupaj 17
komadov v studiu se preden je sel sedet. Po osmih mesecih, ko je Larry
koncno prisel ven, je Rob zapustil Cannibal Corpse in tako so Hate Plow
veliko vadili skupaj in se pripravljali na ziv nastop.
A zgodila se je se ena tragedija. 24. maja 1997 so "norega" Larryja
Hawka
nasli mrtvega doma. Umrl je zaradi inhalacij strupenih plinov od pozara.
Preselimo se v leto 1999. Band je iskal zamenjavo za bobnarja in tako so
kontaktirali Davea Culrossa (Malevolent Creation, ex-Suffocation). V Studiu
13 so posneli album "The only law is survival". S tem albumom so Hate
Plow
dosegli nov spekter Grindcora, tako v hitrosti, kot intenzivnosti.

ROTTEN SOUND (Fin)
Finci Rotten Sound prisegajo na ekstremnost tradicionalnega grindcora, ki
mu dodajo elemente, znacilne le za njih. Obstajajo od leta 1993 in od takrat
so izdali kar nekaj singlov in EPjev, ki jim je leta 1998 sledil album
"Under Pressure". Pri Rotten Sound se cuti vpliv bandov kot so Napalm
Death
in Extreme Noise Terror. Sledil je album "Drain", kjer je band
dozorel ter
podpisali so za Necropolis records iz druge strani Atlantika. Leta 2000 so
bili ze na turneji z Malevolent Creation in Hate Plow, kjer so se ustavili
tudi pri nas. Kai-jevo bobnanje gre onkraj omejitev fizike! Rotten Sound se
na koncertih namazejo popolnoma rdece. Na turneji bodo predstavljali
najnovejso umetnijo "Murderworks".
