RUT HOST
Formed in San Francisco, California in 1999, Rut Host has been touring
Europe since April 2000, and has not yet gone back to the USA. The circuit
has been Holland, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia,
Bosnia, Croatia, Lithuania and Poland - and now Slovenia.

Rut Host has three players: Alex on guitar and vocals, J.R. on bass and
vocals, and Peter Ffrench on drums. The style is their own brand of rocket
fuel rock featuring a sound similar to Motorhead and Nirvana.

Their first CD was recorded in San Francisco before they came to Europe.
Their second CD was recorded in Budapest for Nephilim Records, and is now
distributed by ENTES AMICOS. You can hear soundklips from their latest,

The latest news includes being invited to perform at the demonstrations in
Warsaw April 29 to show their support for resisting the worst aspects of
globalization, and to oppose the US war and occupation of Iraq. There they
will be a subject of a documentary film by Polish filmmakers.

Unlike other bands who have the luxury of idle time to write music, Rut
Host's continuous touring roll through Europe forces them to pull over and
write in bizarre places. The most recent songs were written in a barracks in
Bosnia, a kraak squat in Amsterdam, a krack house in Krakow, and in a bomb
shelter in Budapest.

The text is about their adventures on the road, such as dealing with border
guards, friction with local gangsters, and relentless rolling from city to
city as they are robbed, wrecked and debauched.

The band's touring has had a major slant towards Eastern Europe, including
festivals in Hungary and Serbia (the 34th Guitarrada festival in Zajecar).
In Serbia their concert was broadcast on national television, which helped
them later get across the border to Bosnia: while they were getting the
typical harsh treatment by one border guard, another guard came up and said,
"I saw them on television, they are cool, let them go through!"

DEAD MOON'S BIOGRAPHIC-INFO

The Weeds - Fred Cole's first recordings as a band. Musical style:= 60's garage-punk.

Releases= two 45s. Fred as lead vocals & guitar. Period 1965/ 66

 

The Lollipop Shoppe - Legendary psychedelic band from Portland, Oregon. Guitar &

vocals: Fred Cole. Musical style: Psychedelic rock with a very special trademark

(all the way through the years until today's Dead Moon) - Cole's magnificent & penetrating voice!

Period 1968/ 69. Releases: LP on Shamley Records (re-released in the UK). Two 45s (one on Shamley & one on

Tower Records. Remarkable: >You must be a Witch< covered by many bands i.e. the Fuzztones & the Droogs.

 

Zipper - Fred Cole founds his next band. Musical style: Hardrock. Releases on his own label

Whizeagle Records. Local LP. Period 1974.

 

The Rats - Birth of a new band. A trio once again. Fred & Toody Cole plus drummer.

Musical style: Punk.  Releases: 3 LPs on Whizeagle. Remarkable: Very trendy.

Low budget recordings on home equipment. Period 1976-80.

 

King Bee - Short live rock formation. Musical style: Garage punk. Release: one

fantastic 45 on own label Whizeagle Records. Again home-cooking. Period 1984.

 

The Western Front - Trio with Fred Cole on vocals. Releases: Several local 45s on

Whizeagle. Period 1986-88. Musical style: Country.

 

DEAD MOON - Lively up-to-date trio. Fred & Toody Cole with Andrew Loomis

 on drums. Musical style: deep garage 60's rock 'n' roll. Finally a worldwide breakthrough.

Several European tours plus tour in Australia. Period 1988 up till today. Releases: (see discography)

several 45s and LPs on Tombstone Records, several LPs & CDs on Music Maniac Records.

Remarkable: Fred Cole still records on home equipment in MONO only.
