Winther<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Kenta Jansson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had already been playing and touring together before forming the band suddenly makes sense. In 2018 Markku joined <\/span><b>Scraps of Tape<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Johan and Kenta\u2019s other project as a live drummer for two tours of Europe and a tour of China. Recognising an immediate chemistry, the outlines for what would become Barrens were sketched out in countless vans, trains, planes and bars as they travelled together across the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back home, the trio wasted no time and quickly turned their collection of notes and motifs into demos; drawing unique inspiration from the experiences they shared as well as exploring new and unknown territories as each member brought elements of their own lives to the table. The result was<\/span> <b><i>Penumbra<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a dense, elegant and passionate collection of instrumental, synth-driven post rock pieces that sounded in no way like the debut album from a brand new band. Rather, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penumbra <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">documents the formation of an indelible bond between three kindred creative spirits now lifelong friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Corpse Lights<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Barrens\u2019 sophomore album, is somehow deeper, richer and headier; imbued with an alluring compositional patience that serves as unspoken testament to the combined creativity of the trio in their element, as something so much greater than the sum of its parts. Recorded and produced by <\/span><b>Kristofer J\u00f6nson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who also helmed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penumbra<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and mixed and mastered once again by <\/span><b>Cult of Luna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s <\/span><b>Magnus Lindberg<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, shimmering synthesizers and sprawling guitars lead the charge propelled by exhilarating drums and percussion but <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corpse Lights <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also finds Barrens using space, silence and atmosphere as another instrument if not as another band member entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the meticulously crafted sonic arc of lead single \u2018<\/span><b>Periastron<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019, which rises and falls in effortless yet visceral measure and how \u2018<\/span><b>Sorrowed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 pulls itself apart only to rebuild anew to the mesmering percussive passage in the midst of \u2018<\/span><b>The Derelict<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 and the split second of air to catch your breath before epic album closer \u2018<\/span><b>A Nothing Expands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 erupts, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corpse Lights <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can too be considered a document; but this time of the brotherly bond that binds Barrens transcending the confines of life on the road to become something new and uncharted, something alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Corpse Lights\u2019 is the name given to the folk belief that small coloured lights often appear near the home of someone about to die, leading them along the path to their eventual resting place. Often considered to be evidence of the soul leaving the body, the concept of corpse lights embodies Barrens\u2019 approach to creating music as a cathartic release; not just writing music because they <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">want <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to but because they <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to. Their writing process is one of joy, light and release as much as it is dark, heavy and tense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Am Fost La Munte Si Mi-a Placut<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (I Went To The Mountains And I Liked It, also stylised as \u201cAFLMSMP\u201d or \u201cAm Fost\u201d) is a Romanian post-rock\/ post-metal band consisting of five multi-instrumentalists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>AFLMSMP <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has shown an inclination towards a barefaced, riff-led take on the post-genres, inviting comparisons with bands such as Pelican and Cloudkicker (dunk!records, 2022) and If These Trees Could Talk (Everything is Noise, 2019).
